Tom has represented clients in adversarial matters in federal trial and appellate courts across the country, as well as in proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His experience also includes U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, trademark clearance and registration, intellectual property opinions and advising clients on intellectual property licensing and other agreements. Tom has worked on matters in a variety of fields, including biotechnology, consumer products and services, medical devices, software and internet, and pharmaceuticals.
Before joining Seed IP, Tom worked as an associate attorney at a multi-practice firm in Seattle and at an IP firm in Tucson, Arizona. He also served as a law clerk for the Honorable James A. Teilborg, United States District Court for the District of Arizona.
As a graduate engineering student, Tom’s research focused on using computer modeling to investigate and design more effective molecular constructs for targeting cancer cells for drug delivery and other therapeutic and diagnostic applications.

Tom is admitted to the Washington and Arizona State Bars, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Tom is a member of the Washington State Patent Law Association (WSPLA) and Life Science Washington (formerly Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association).
